Free DVD Authoring Software Program

We have some great free DVD authoring software for you below. 'Authoring' just means taking your video and producing a DVD from it. This normally involves creating a DVD menu (which allows the viewer to play the video, select scenes etc) and burning it to a DVD disc. All the programs listed below are totally free full working versions (not free trials etc.) which will allow you to easily create and burn a DVD from your camera (e.g. DV camcorder, video camera, web cam, TV tuner etc.),or from video files on your computer (AVI, DIVX, XVID, MPEG-4, MPG, WMV, ASF, MOV etc.).

Depending on the software, you will also be able to create a menu, add titles, audio, images, backgrounds and chapters.

#1 - Video DVD Maker Free: Easy-to-use interface makes this program a popular choice. The free version of it's bigger brother, Video DVD Maker Pro ($29.95), it allows you to capture video from web cams, camcorders, TV tuners etc. or import any video file, including AVI, DIVX, XVID, MPEG-4, MPG, WMV, ASF, and MOV, and burn a DVD you can watch on your TV or computer.

But unlike Video DVD Maker Pro, you cannot create menus, add chapters, download from YouTube or create slideshows. I guess thats the price you pay for being free! For Windows only.


#2 - DVD Flick DVD Flick is another authoring program which is simple to use, but doesn't have a direct video capture facility. It does however have the ability to create a DVD menu with chapters and everything. You can add audio, subtitles and you can pretty much use any video format, including FLV (Though I doubt the video quality will be any good!). For Windows only.


#3 - DVD Styler: Another very simple interface, so you should get to grips with this program pretty quickly. Supports all the main video formats and uses MPEG and VOB files straight to DVD without encoding. Drag and drop buttons and images, import images and create simple menus. For Windows & Linux only.

Please note that I do not personally use these free DVD authoring programs, so cannot offer any support for them. I offer them here for your information and convenience.

I personally recommend and use Sony Movie Studio (See left), which includes Sony Architect DVD authoring software.
